Paris, Samson, 1758, 2 volumes in-4, 5ff.-678pp.-1f. - 2ff.-656pp. Bound in marbled brown calfskin, ribbed spine decorated with small flowers, palmettes and small gilt ironwork, title and volume number labels, red edges. (Contemporary bindings). - Dattin de Lancey bookplate. Worn caps, rubbed corners, upper joints of Volume II split, a few scuffs, a few rare pinholes inside, very faint water stain on the upper corner of the last leaves of Volume I.
Volume 1: ordinances of 1667 and 1669, and the edict of 1669 serving as regulations for spices and fees, forms and procedural documents. Volume 2: the Criminal Ordinance of 1670, the Trade Ordinance of 1673 and the Edict of 1695 on ecclesiastical jurisdiction, forms and procedural documents. Sallé (Paris, 1712–1778) gave up practising law, hampered as he was by his shyness. He confined himself to scholarly work and published studies remarkable for their clarity and erudition. He was one of the most learned jurists of his time, unanimously regarded as one of the finest commentators on the ordinances of Louis XIV. However, his works on the ordinances of Louis XV are more frequently encountered.
