Volume I: [BARJETON (Daniel)]. Letters. Ne repugnate vestro bono... Amsterdam, 1750; 2ff.–458pp.–2pp. concerning the ruling of the Council of State ordering the suppression of this work... Edition published in the same year as the original. An important work for the history of the disputes surrounding the immunities of ecclesiastical property. It was commissioned from Daniel Barjeton (a jurist born in Uzès around 1678) by the Comptroller of Finances, Machault, in order to present to the public the proposal that the Church should contribute to public expenditure. Although he doubted the project would come to fruition, Barjeton drafted his letters ‘Ne repugnate vostre’, so named after the passage from Seneca that serves as their epigraph. This work was suppressed by a decree of the Council on 1 June 1750 and placed on the Index under pressure from the clergy on 25 January 1751. It was in connection with this work that Voltaire fabricated the extract from the decree of the Sacred Congregation of Rome against a pamphlet entitled: ‘Letters on the Twentieth’. (Barbier II, 1280).
Volume II: Extract from the minutes of the General Assembly of the Clergy of France. Held in Paris… in the year 1750. Third, expanded edition of the King’s Declaration, issued at Versailles on 17 August 1750… Lyon, 1750; 12pp.–176pp. An entry in the Cat. Collectif de France attributes this work to a certain Abbé de Nicolay. - [Followed by:] Extracts from the Minutes of the Clergy, which clearly prove that the gifts offered to the Kings by the Clergy have always been requested, granted and received as free, voluntary and uncompensated gifts. Lyon, 1750; 192 pp.
Volume III: Observations on a text entitled: Extract from the Minutes of the General Assembly of the Clergy of France, held in Paris… at the Convent of the Grands Augustins, in the year 1750. No place, 12 November 1750; If.-VIIpp.-277pp.
Volume IV: [DURANTHON]. Reply to the letters against the immunity of ecclesiastical property. Amsterdam, 1750; 1f.-VIpp.-200pp. – [Followed by, by the same author:] Continuation of the Reply to the letters against the immunity of ecclesiastical property. N.p., 1750; 252pp. - Barbier IV, col. 304, attributes this work to Abbé Ant. Duranthon on the basis of a note from the Hémery bookshop. - (Quérard II, p. 723).
Volume V: [BEAUVAIS]. The Voice of the Christian and the Bishop. Amsterdam, 1751; 39 pp. Barbier I, col. 854, attributes this work to a certain Beauvais, nephew of the Keeper of the Clergy’s Archives, aged 20. Several works appear to have been published under the same title. – [Followed by:] Supplement to the Sincere Advice to the Prelates Previously Assembled in the Name of the Clergy, Also Serving as a Reply to Certain Critics. Amsterdam, 1751; paginated 40 to 106, following the previous work. – [Followed by:] Le B. S.l., 1750; 16 pages. – [Followed by:] Letter from a London printer to the Defender of the Clergy of France, concerning the Reply to the Letters against the Immunity of Ecclesiastical Property. London, 1750; 64 pp. – [Followed by:] [BEAUVAIS]. Defence of the Immunity of Ecclesiastical Property. London, 1750; 1f.–IIpp.–111pp. – [Followed by:] Letter from the Archbishop of ** to a Councillor of State. N.p., 1751; 83 pp. – [Followed by:] The Voice of the Fool and of Women. London, 1751; paginated 84–94, following the preceding work.
