Description
[PETITDIDIER (Dom Matthieu de, Benedictine of Saint-Vanne)]. A Defence of Louis de Montalte’s *Lettres provinciales* against the latest reply from the Jesuit Fathers, entitled *Entretiens de Cléandre et d’Eudoxe*.
Published in Rouen, and sold in Delft by Henri van Rhin, 1698; in-12. VIII–160 pp. Marbled brown calfskin, ribbed spine. Water damage at the bottom.
First part only. Petitdidier responds to a text by Father Daniel criticising Pascal’s book, and defends the Auvergne philosopher’s views; this would lead to his condemnation by the Church and the placing of his work on the Index.
