256- DUHAMEL DU MONCEAU (Henri-Louis): ‘Treatise on Fruit Trees; containing their illustrations, descriptions, cultivation, &c.’ Paris: Saillant and Desaint, 1768. 2 volumes, in-4 (complete). The first is the text volume in two parts (a corner is missing from the half-title page of the second part). The second volume is the atlas containing the frontispiece by De Sève and the 180 plates, all coloured at the time. Later full red morocco binding imitating the 18th century. Triple gilt fillets framing the covers. Spined back decorated with floral motifs. Gilded roulette pattern on the inside of the covers. Gilded edges. AN EXTREMELY RARE AND SUPERB FIRST EDITION of this famous botanical work on fruit trees by Duhamel du Monceau, featuring colour plates – which is quite exceptional.
