Description
JARDINS.— An illustrated gazette for garden enthusiasts. Paris, 1913–1930. 14 folio-sized instalments, 33 × 51 cm, in loose sheets, untrimmed, with the publisher’s covers. A rare, complete set (1913–1930) of this lavish publication on the history of the gardens of châteaux and private mansions, written by Ernest de Ganay, Raymond de Passillé, Lucien Corpechot, and others. It was printed in a run of a few hundred copies on Arches vellum. This Gazette continued to be published until 1969. The set comprises the first 14 issues: autumn 1913, spring 1914, summer 1914, winter 1914, and 1920 to 1930 (a single issue for 1926–1927). They are illustrated with 170 plates, some spanning two pages, some in colour, and numerous reproductions within the text. Most of the instalments are numbered and preserved in their original delivery envelopes addressed to Mr Horteloup, 27 Rue Marbeuf, Paris.
