In-4, 18 x 27 cm, 4 ff., 180 + 238 pp., 1 folio, frontispiece and 40 plates, contemporary binding in aubergine half-shagreen, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs, gilt edges. First edition of this history of the Natural History Museum in Paris. Illustrated with 41 plates (15 engraved plates of flowers and birds, coloured and gummed; 5 plates of views of the park; 16 portraits and 5 plans, including 3 double-page spreads, one of which is in bistre) and numerous woodcut sketches within the text.
