PITTON DE TOURNEFORT (Joseph). An account of a voyage to the Levant undertaken by order of the King, containing the ancient and modern history of several islands of the archipelago, of Constantinople, the coasts of the Black Sea, Armenia, Georgia, the frontiers of Persia and Asia Minor… Amsterdam, the Company, 1718. 2 volumes in one in-4 volume, 19.5 x 25 cm, 14 ff., 188 pp., 44 plates, including 3 folded plates and 1 folio, 208 pp., 8 ff., 45 plates, including one folded plate, modern binding in marbled brown sheepskin, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs. Dutch edition, published a year after the first French edition, of this significant journey through Greece, Turkey, Georgia and Armenia, undertaken in 1700–1702. Illustrated with 89 plates and 46 figures in the text, engraved after the works of the natural history painter Claude Aubriet, who took part in the journey: views, maps, costumes, antiquities, plants, etc. From the library of Gilbert Dufaux (dry-stamped on the title pages and p. 39).
