AMOREUX (Pierre-Joseph). A Guide to the Insects of France, Reputed to be Venomous… Paris, [Gaspard-Joseph Cuchet], 1789. In-8, 12.5 x 19.5 cm, VIII + 302 pp., 1 f., 2 pl., later binding in brown half-basane, spine decorated with gilt faux-ribbing. First edition of this study on venomous insects by the Montpellier-based physician, naturalist and botanist Amoreux (1741–1824). Illustrated with 25 engravings on 2 plates. A fine copy, formerly from the libraries of the Reims-based physician Jean-Baptiste-Pierre-Henri Caqué (1751–1805) (wet seal bearing the caduceus, dated 1775, on the title page), and subsequently from the natural history collection of Gilbert Dufaux (ex-libris).
