BRONGNIART (Charles). Research into the history of fossil insects from the Palaeozoic era, preceded by a study of the venation of insect wings. Saint-Étienne, Imprimerie Théolier, 1893. 2 volumes in-4, 23 x 23.5 cm, 494 pp., 1 f. & 44 pp., 37 double or folded plates, contemporary binding in red half-shagreen, ribbed spine. A rare first edition of the publication of the thesis by the entomologist and palaeontologist Ch. Brongniart (1859–1899), grandson of the botanist Adolphe Brongniart, which he defended the following year. Illustrated with 37 large plates, engraved from the author’s drawings, depicting fossilised insects. An exceptional copy presented by Brongniart to his parents, with a signed autograph dedication on the title page of the text volume: ‘To my dear parents, as a token of gratitude and sincere affection, Charles’.
