Description
PATTE (Pierre). Monuments erected in France in honour of Louis XV, preceded by an account of the progress of the arts and sciences during his reign… and followed by a selection of the principal proposals put forward for the erection of the king’s statue in various districts of Paris. Paris, printed by Moreau for the author, Desaint, Saillant, 1765. Folio, 29 x 43.5 cm, 2 folios, 232 pp., 1 f., 57 pl., contemporary binding in marbled fawn calfskin, ribbed spine decorated with gilded motifs.
First edition of the most significant work by Pierre Patte, professor at the Royal Academy of Architecture.
Illustrated with 57 copper-engraved plates, including 14 double-page plates and 10 folded plates: elevations, sections and plans of buildings and monuments, and plans for urban development in Paris and the provinces, some of which remained at the design stage. With three engraved headbands, the first by Charles-Nicolas Cochin after a drawing by François Boucher.
