Description
LATREILLE (Pierre-André) & Félix-Édouard GUÉRIN-MENEVILLE]. Encyclopaedic and Methodical Survey of the Three Kingdoms of Nature. Part Eighteen. Insects. Paris, Henri Agasse, 1797.— Part Twenty-four. Crustaceans, arachnids and insects. Paris, Agasse’s widow, 1818. 3 tomes in 2 volumes, quarto, 20.5 x 28 cm, 142 pp., 1 f., 165 plates & 2 folios, 102 plates (numbered 166–267) & 2 folios, 38 pp., 1 folio, 131 plates (numbered 268–397), including one folded plate; modern binding in fawn half-calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilded insects.
The sole atlas of the entomological section of the monumental *Tableau encyclopédique et méthodique des trois règnes de la nature*, published as part of Panckoucke’s *Encyclopédie méthodique* from the late 18th century to the 1830s.
Includes the Explanation of the plates on natural history, crustaceans, arachnids and insects (plates 1 to 268 inclusive), as well as 398 engraved plates.
A fine copy, from the natural history library of Gilbert Dufaux (dry stamps on the first leaf, p. 39 and plate 39 of the first volume, and the title page and plate 239 of the second volume). Scratched stamps on the title page and half-title of the second volume, with significant stains and losses roughly marked on the half-title. Some foxing. A few plates uniformly and faintly foxed. More extensive foxing on the last two plates. Plate 394 is shorter and mounted on tabs. – Expert: Cédric and Ithier de FOUGEROLLE
