Ajasse, 1811 (for Volume 8), Paris, the widow of Ajasse, 1819–1825 (for Volumes 9 and 10). 7 volumes (numbered 4 to 10) in 8 quarto volumes, 21 x 26.5 cm, 2 folios, CCCLXXIV pp. & 332 pp. & 2 ff., 794 pp., 1 blank f. & 2 ff., 704 pp. & 2 ff., 828 pp. & 2 ff., 722 pp. & 2 ff., II + 828 pp. & 3 ff., 832 pp., 1 f., modern binding in fawn half-basane, ribbed spine decorated with gilt dots, untrimmed. First edition of the section devoted to insects, in the form of an alphabetical dictionary, from the ‘Encyclopédique Panckoucke’, published in 206 volumes between 1782 and 1832. The first volume contains the ‘preliminary discourse’ by François-Pierre Mauduyt de la Varenne. The last two volumes, published after Olivier’s death in 1814, were written by Latreille, his disciple, in collaboration with Jean-Baptiste Godart, Lepeletier de Saint-Fargeau, Audinet-Serville and Guérin-Méneville. The set is complete with the errata sheet from the final volume. Two volumes, containing 397 plates, were published in 1830. A copy in perfect condition, from Gilbert Dufaux’s natural history library (dry-stamped on the title page and page 39 of each volume).
