Description
Atlas of Insects…. Paris, Roret, 1844. In-16, 9.5 x 14.5 cm, 14 pp. (of 16), 110 plates, late 19th-century binding in green half-shagreen, ribbed spine decorated with gilt fillets. First edition of this entomological atlas intended to illustrate Pierre Boitard’s *Manuel d’entomologie*, containing 110 engraved plates, of which 106 (all the insect plates) are finely coloured. Copies with the coloured plates have become rare. A very fine copy. Autographed gift from Dr Lucien Quélet (1832–1899), a founding member of the French Mycological Society, to his compatriot, the naturalist, botanist and mycologist from the Vosges, Jean-Baptiste-Victor-Adolphe Demange (1870–1940), in whose honour he had named ‘Pluteolus demangei’ a previously unknown fungus that the latter had collected in the Vosges. - Experts: Cédric and Ithier de FOUGEROLLE
