Rouen, Paris, the Booksellers’ Company. 1715. 2 volumes in-4, 18 x 24.5 cm, 4 folios, 16 + 32 pp. (incorrectly numbered 23), 4 folios, 666 pp., 2 ff., 12 plates, including 2 folded plates & 6 ff., 562 pp., 15 ff., 1 plate, contemporary brown calfskin binding, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt motifs. The first of the great modern agronomic treatises, first published in 1690. Illustrated with 13 engraved plates (the King’s kitchen garden at Versailles, pruning fruit trees, the gardener’s tools), including 2 folded plates, and 8 headbands engraved by Jean-Baptiste Scottin. Good condition. From the library of Joseph de Sars de Curgies, of Douai (repeated handwritten bookplate, 1787, and a typographic label mounted on the title pages), then of Gilbert Dufaux (dry-stamped seal on the title page and p. 39).
