Description
AYKULL (Gustaf von). Fauna Svecica. Insecta. Uppsala, Jean-Frédéric Edman, [1798]–1800. 3 volumes in one in-8 volume, 12.5 x 20.5 cm, 5 ff., 358 pp., 1 f. & 1 f., 234 pp. & 1 f., 460 pp., late 19th-century Scandinavian binding in half-shagreen with green corners, ribbed spine decorated with blind-stamped lines and gilt motifs.
First edition of this work devoted to the insects of Sweden and of particular importance for the systematics of beetles.
A fine copy from the collection of William Spence (1783–1860), a British entomologist and co-author, with William Kirby, of the 1815 *Introduction to Entomology* (handwritten inscription on the title pages), who added a handwritten table (a folded leaf at the end) of weevils. A 19th-century signature by a doctor from Avignon on the title page of the first volume. Foxing, a few leaves uniformly browned. Binding very slightly rubbed. - Expert: Cédric and Ithier de FOUGEROLLE
