Description
GARDENS.— VERA (André). Les jardins. Paris, Émile-Paul frères, 1919 [1920]. In-4, 25 x 32.5 cm, 150 pp., later cardboard binding. First edition of the seminal work on Art Deco garden architecture in France, written by the landscape architect André Vera, illustrated in black and white (plans and views) and laid out by his brother Paul, a painter and decorator. In very good condition. One of 500 copies printed on Arches paper, unbound. A copy autographed by the author and the illustrator, sent to their friend, the architect Jean-Charles Moreux (1889–1956), who built La Thébaïde, the two brothers’ private mansion in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, accompanied by an original watercolour by Paul Vera. Two original drawings by Paul Vera, dated 1923 (garden designs, pencil and watercolour), have been mounted at the front. - Expert: Cédric and Ithier de FOUGEROLLE
