Baillière et fils, 1873–1885. 4 volumes in-8, 15 x 23.5 cm, VIII + 840 pp. & 2 ff., 1028 pp. & 2 ff., 1110 pp. & 2 ff., 118 plates (numbered 117), modern bindings in black half-shagreen, spines ribbed and decorated with gilt fillets. A rare first edition of this comprehensive synthesis of general and applied entomology. The third atlas volume comprises 118 engraved plates. With a supplementary volume in a modern imitation binding (16 x 23 cm) containing the remainder of the 118 plates, of which 112 are finely coloured, cut to size and mounted, and 27 plates, of which 26 are coloured or printed in colour, taken from other works on entomology, bound at the end. A fine copy, from the natural history library of Gilbert Dufaux (bookplates, labels and embossed stamps on the title pages). Covers rubbed.
