Description
[ILLUMINATIONS / CANON LAW] Double leaf from the *Constitutiones Clementinae* of Pope Clement V: parchment, 46 × 27 cm, c. 1320–1340. Main text in the centre in two columns, surrounded by glosses on all four sides. Written in brown ink, with rubrics in red; footnotes in red or blue ink; filigree initials adorned with floral motifs and extended into scrollwork in blue, pink, gold and white. Main chapters: an extract from the Apostolic Constitution *Ne Romani* promulgated in 1311; *De Dolo et Contumacia* (Title IV of Book II); *ut lite pendente nihil innoventur*; *De sequestratione possessionum et fructuum* (Title VI of Book II)
The Constitutiones Clementinae are a collection promulgated in 1317 by Pope John XXII, bringing together the decretals of his predecessor Clement V as well as the decisions of the Council of Vienne (1311–1312). It is a major text of the Corpus Juris Canonici, enriched by a gloss probably written by Jean d’André, the renowned canonist (c. 1275–1348).
