Description
A mock-up collection of three rare 16th-century texts bound together in an 8vo volume, in soft full vellum, with a handwritten title on the spine and traces of lacing. The third text is trimmed short at the top margin. 1/ CHEYLUS (Sébastien). Disticha in singula omnium librorum sacrae scripturae (...). Frankfurt, heirs of Christian Egenolff, 1561. 72 ff. A religious handbook, presented in the form of couplets arranged in alphabetical order for each chapter of the Bible. 2/ DUGO (Johannes Philonius). De scientia bene moriendi, Liber. Also, Xenocrates, the Platonic philosopher’s treatise On the Contempt of Death, translated by the same Philonius (...). First collective edition of this moral and spiritual treatise on preparation for death, the ‘ars moriendi’.
