ROZARD (Johann Claude de). *Nouvelle fortification Françoise*, which deals with the construction of fortified towns, together with an explanation of the three systems of Marshal de Vauban, the methods of attacking and defending fortresses, of encamping armies in line and during sieges, of deploying troops in battle and directing them in combat, whether on the open plain or in defence of entrenchments. First and only edition of this treatise on modern fortification by Lieutenant-Colonel Rozard, an engineer in the service of the Elector of Bavaria, in which he sets out the theoretical and practical principles of fortification, placing particular emphasis on Vauban’s three systems. It is illustrated with a frontispiece depicting Charles Albert of Bavaria and 38 fold-out plates engraved by Jean Gacon (numbered up to 42, as several figures are combined on a single sheet).
