A new edition of this important travel account of Portugal, first published in 1798 under the name of Louis-Marie-Florent du Châtelet, but attributed to Pierre-Marie-Félicité Dezoteux, Baron de Cormatin (1753–1812). The text was revised and expanded by the diplomat and traveller Jean-François de Bourgoing, who added numerous notes intended to update the information on Portugal and its colonial empire, notably Brazil.
