[VIREY (Julien-Joseph)]. New Dictionary of Natural History Applied to the Arts, chiefly to Agriculture and Rural and Domestic Economy. Paris, printed by Crapelet and Deterville, Year XI–1803–1804. 24 volumes, 8vo, fawn half-basane, covers lined with pink paper. Some damage to the top corners, minor binding defects, some plates discoloured.
Complete set of 264 engraved plates, published as inserts by Tardieu, Pelé and others, after designs by de Sèves and Meunier.
First edition edited under the direction of the physician, naturalist and anthropologist Julien-Joseph Virey (1775–1846), with the collaboration of leading scientists of the time such as Jean-Baptiste Biot, Jacques-Martin Cels, Jean-Antoine Chaptal, Antoine-Augustin Parmentier, Charles Sonnini de Manoncourt and André Thouin.
