Description
[DALI (Salvador)] GOETHE (Johann Wolfgang von). Faust. Translated by Gérard de Nerval. n.p. [Geneva & Paris], Grafik Europa Anstalt / Atelier Robbe, 1969. A folio-sized volume in loose-leaf format, in a purple cloth slipcase and box provided by the publisher, illustrated after works by Dalí, and a companion volume in loose-leaf format in a burgundy slipcase with a drawstring, bearing a gold-embossed facsimile of Dalí’s signature. A fine copy.
The illustrations by Salvador Dalí consist of 21 original copper plates engraved using drypoint, ruby and diamond, including 11 full-page plates outside the text bearing the publisher’s stamp with Dalí’s imprint.
Limited edition of 293 numbered copies, each bearing Salvador Dalí’s autograph signature and the publisher’s stamp bearing Dalí’s impression. This copy, one of 25 on pearlescent Japanese paper (no. 13), is accompanied by three sets of plates:
1/ a set of inserts on silk
2/ a set of black-and-white inserts
3/ a set of colour inserts.
The first two sets are kept in the publisher’s separate portfolio; the colour set is inserted following the main text.
