Description
GUERIN (Maurice de). *Le Centaure*. Lyon: Le Cercle Gryphe, 1929. One quarto volume in loose sheets, with a filled, printed and illustrated hardback cover. Scattered foxing at the end of the volume. A superb Art Deco volume, entirely decorated by the Lyon-based copper engraver Claudius Linossier (1893–1953) with 73 geometric compositions wood-engraved by Philippe Burnot and printed in red, black, grey and silver, most of which are enhanced with palladium. This is the only book illustrated by Claudius Linossier and the first work published by the Cercle Gryphe. Limited edition of 133 copies on vellum, all inscribed with the owner’s name; this particular copy was specially printed for Mr Léon Desbenoit. This copy is enhanced by an original drawing used as a proof and a series of 11 trial prints and proofs on tracing paper, signed in pencil by Burnot, of the same drawing.
