Description
[Indochina - Cambodia]. ALBUM OF 20 LARGE HELIOGRAVURES (380 x 280 mm) pasted on strong paper, mitre-mounted and collected in an oblong in folio album, brown half-basin with corners with the inscription in red on the 1st plate "To Monsieur le Gouverneur Général and Madame Alexandre Varenne in memory of their visit to the Ruins of Angkor, 15 and 16 August 1926". This magnificent and unique album was photographed by Fernand Nadal, born in 1898, a photographer who worked both for the General Government and for the owners of the large palaces built on tourist sites such as Angkor. These photos show different aspects of the ruins of Angkor-Vat, the Bayon, the Baphuon, Takeo and Neak-Pean. This collection was a gift to Alexandre Varenne (1870-1947), Governor General of Indochina, journalist, lawyer and founder of the daily newspaper La Montagne in Clermont-Ferrand. It bears a signed dedication (illegible) dated 17 August 1926 in his name. Minor spotting on the binding, the interior is intact.
