In-12 brown calf, boards decorated with a silver plate in the shape of a lozenge decorated with intertwined wires and surrounded by a border of small repoussé metal petals; 5 red garnet cabochons with the central element faceted to catch the light; richly chased spandrels bordered with small pearled dots; clasps decorated with rocaille shells, one of which bears 2 hallmarks and the other an inventory number; initials C.L.A.D. on the boards (19th century binding) A luxurious goldsmith's binding, most likely given as a confirmation or wedding present by upper middle-class families or the Swedish nobility. Specially commissioned, this binding contains the official liturgical text of the Lutheran Church of Sweden together with the psalter (title incomplete). This work is a true romantic reinterpretation of medieval bindings. Apart from a few interior stains and a lack at the edge of 3 spandrels, the binding is in fine condition.
