Description
Adolphe APPIAN (1818–1898), French painter. Signed autograph letter to the author of an article published in the newspaper *L’Artiste*. Lyon, 9 April 1883. One in-8 page, on paper embossed with his initials (slight creases where folded into quarters).
The painter expresses his thanks for the article, but is surprised, as he had sent nothing for this exhibition held in Tarare. He suspects a dealer is involved and protests: ‘Shouldn’t commissions only be accepted [...] with the artist’s authorisation? – I did not wish to be included [6 words underlined]’. He asks the recipient, if they know who sent the painting, to kindly let him know.
