Description
Jean-Léon GÉRÔME (1824–1904), French painter and engraver. Signed autograph letter, addressed to a ‘Dear Sir’. Paris, 22 July 1903. ½ page in-12; yellow paper with the printed address ‘65, Boulevard de Clichy’ (slight creases where folded into quarters).
The painter regrets that he is unable to provide his correspondent with any information regarding ‘Mlle Bargue’ and states that he was unaware that his colleague had a daughter. The painter in question must be Charles Bargue (1825–1883), and Gérôme adds: ‘He has been dead for quite some time now, and I have never heard of him since’.
