An Epistle to the Sovereigns of Europe assembled at the Congress of Vienna, which received the first honourable mention in the judgement of the Académie française at the public sitting of 25 August 1823. Paris: printed by Firmin Didot, 1823. 8vo, [1] leaf, 26 pp., paperback, modern cover, red adhesive spine (foxing, faint angular discolouration).
First edition of this poem, followed by historical notes by A. Bignan (1795–1861), a man of letters who distinguished himself in particular through a complete translation of the *Iliad* and the *Odyssey* into French verse; he published numerous poems and academic plays, as well as a novel (*L’Échafaud*, 1822) in which he takes a stand against the death penalty. Modern dry-stamped seal on the half-title page.
