[Travels]. PREVOST (Antoine François). A General History of Travels, or a New Collection of All Accounts of Journeys by Sea and Land, which have been published to date in the various languages of all known nations... The Hague, published by Pierre de Hondt, 1747–1755. 13 quarto volumes, uniform contemporary binding in speckled havana calfskin, ribbed spine, title and volume number labels in red morocco, marbled edges (flaws including snags to the headbands, rubbed corners, a few leaves , a stain on 3 pages in vol. 6, moderate general browning, a few plates have torn folds with no loss of material). A fine copy of the first 13 volumes of this important series, which is expected to comprise around twenty or slightly more volumes, depending on the supplements. This work is distinguished by its abundant copperplate engravings, published as separate plates, comprising maps and plans, landscape views and scenes. New edition, revised and corrected, ‘… whose illustrations and maps were engraved by and under the direction of J. vander Schley, a distinguished pupil of the famous Picart the Roman’.
