Description
[Architecture]. [Drawing]. [Meuse]. ‘The old forge at Jeand’Heurs. Restoration of Mr J. Deschamps’ house. Main elevation. ’
Black ink and pencil. 28.4 x 40 cm. Inscription in the bottom right-hand corner: ‘Bar-le-Duc, September 1852, The Architect’ [unsigned].
The hamlet of Jean d’Heurs forms part of the commune of L’Isle-en-Rigault, on the banks of the Saulx, in the department of Meuse (between Saint-Dizier and Bar-le-Duc).
Could this building be a former outbuilding of the Château de Jean d’Heurs? The former Abbey of Notre-Dame-de-Jean-d’Heurs, a Premonstratensian abbey, was converted into a château by Marshal Nicolas Oudinot in 1808.
The roof is barely sketched in pencil.
