[Manuscript]. [Calligraphy]. [Sarthe]. WRITING BOOK by Maria Lacroix, a pupil at the Ruillé-sur-Sarthe boarding school. 1854. Folio size, in aniseed-coloured moiré percaline binding of the period, covers edged with a gilt roulette, brown chagrin title label on the upper cover (spine and corners worn, stains on the covers, discolouration, one leaf detached without a guard). A touching account of the education provided at a boarding school in the Sarthe region in the mid-19th century. It comprises a title page and [11] pages written with care within a border drawn in coloured inks and subsequently redrawn.
