Description
Charles-Olivier MERSON (1822–1902), French painter and art critic, father of the painter Luc-Olivier Merson. Signed autograph letter, addressed to the photographer Étienne Carjat (1828–1906), as per the handwritten address on the reverse (crease marks, slight creases). ‘My dear friend, the article you may have read in last night’s *L’Opinion* is incomplete. As it was a little too long for the space allocated to it, they cut it off above the knee. It was Mr Maleskine (?) – remember that name well, it’s that of a pedant – who carried out (i.e. arranged?) the execution […]. There is a photographic portrait of Charles-O. Merson taken by Carjat.
