Description
ELUARD (Paul). [Dada Manifesto]. Paris, 21 September 1920. L.A.S. to Frédéric Lefèvre, Paris, 21 September 1920. 1 p. In-8 (upper left corner missing) envelope preserved. Eluard writes: "I will give your commission to Aragon and Picabia today. As for Morand, he is not in Paris and I don't have his address". He goes on to give a bibliographical reference (F. S. Flint, Some French Poets of To-Day. Monthly Chapbook Vol 1, No 4, The Poetry Bookshop, London, 1919) and the bookshop where he could obtain the work. Frédéric Lefèvre (1889-1949) was a writer, editor of Nouvelles Littéraires (1922-1949) and literary critic. He continued, "Do you know Tzara's 1918 Dada manifesto, the most precious of all. You could read it at the Sans Pareil, because all the Dada n[umer]os must be out of print". The Dada Manifesto 1918 was read during a performance on 23 July 1918 at the Zunfthaus in der Meise in Zurich. Corrected and republished with six other manifestos, it was intended as an anti-manifesto. "His project was polemical: "I destroy the drawers of the brain and those of social organisation" (Abastado, Cl. Le "Manifeste Dada 1918" : un tourniquet. In: Littérature, n°39, 1980. Les manifestes. pp. 39-46). DADAISM
