[EMBLEMATA]. BIE, C. de . PERS, D.P. VONDEL, J. van den.
[A collection comprising three series of books of emblems and fables].
Antwerp, Amsterdam, 1613–1708.
3 works in one square 8vo volume. 19th-century fawn half-basane, probably Dutch, smooth spine decorated with interlaced gilt metal fittings, orange morocco title label with gilt title, yellow edges (small scuffs on the sides of the spine, lower joint slightly split, minor flaws inside, including some short margins and a few stains; the title page of the BIE is soiled and reinforced along the side and bottom edges, but the interior pages remain fresh on the whole).
A set of three 17th-century Dutch titles of the utmost rarity.
Good copies.
Includes the superb and very rare first edition with emblems of Vondel’s *Den gulden winckel*:
- VONDEL, Joost van den. ?
*Den Gulden Winckel der Konstlievende Nederlanders: gestoffeert met veel treffelycke historische, philosophische, poetische morale ende schriftuerlcke leeringen*.

(2) folios, including the beautiful frontispiece title page engraved with figures by Serwout, 78 pp., (2) folios and 74 full-page allegorical figures, engraved in black on copper by de Jode after van den Broeck.
The work illustrates 74 fables in verse by Joost van den Vondel, regarded as the ‘Prince of Poets’ in the Netherlands (a few figures have been censored for reasons of modesty by blacking out with ink or a stylus; a tiny old manuscript numeral on the title page indicates the number of figures).
De Vries, 52. Landwehr, 876.
Bound at the head:
- BIE, Cornelis de.
Den Spiegel vande verdrayde werelt: te sien in den bedriegelijcken handel, sotte en ongeregelde manieren van het al te broos menschen leven.
Antwerp, Johannes Paulus Robyns, 1708.
(13) folios, including title page, 306 pp., (4) folios, copperplate engravings in black, including 4 full-page emblems.
