Brussels, Leipzig, Ghent: Muquard, Merzbach and Falk, 1874–1884. 3 volumes, large 8vo (27 x 17.5 cm). Contemporary brown half-percaline binding, smooth spine, title and volume numbers in gold (spine faded, covers scuffed). A magnificent work on entomology. The illustrations comprise a fold-out map of the entomological regions of Belgium and 424 lithographs, finely hand-coloured and highlighted with gum. The only edition of this work, printed in a small run and published in instalments. Featuring superb plates of Belgian butterflies in their natural habitat, with colours that have retained their vibrancy. Nissen, ZBI 1164.
