GRANDAMI, Jacques.
Nova demonstratio immobilitatis terrae petita ex virtute magnetica
Flexiae (La Flèche), published by Georgius Griveau, 1645.
Small quarto (22.5 x 17.5 cm), engraved title-frontispiece, (4) folios, 170 pages, 7 plates, 24 figures, headbands, initials. Soft ivory-coloured vellum of the period, plain spine, engraving by Landry pasted onto the upper cover (vellum soiled, engraving inked, water stains, sections out of order, one plate detached).

Jacques Grandami (1588–1672), a Jesuit and dean of the Royal College of La Flèche, sets out his own theories on terrestrial magnetism in order to defend the immobility of the Earth and refute the Copernican theory.
His demonstrations are illustrated with intriguing engravings of putti conducting various experiments on the attraction of magnetic bodies and the theory of magnetism
Illustrated with a frontispiece, 7 black-and-white copperplate engravings—two of which feature astronomical figures—and 24 black-and-white copperplate engravings within the text by F. Rousseuille.
Only three entries in the CCFr (including the copy held by the Prytanée militaire de La Flèche).
