Large 8vo (approx. 28 x 18 cm), title page, portrait, map, 36 copper-engraved plates. Contemporary blue half-calf, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and scrolls, gilt title (some scuffing to the binding, worn joints, marginal foxing on the plates but slightly more pronounced on the map).
A beautiful and very rare romantic album.
The title page is printed on laid paper.
A collection of views of Switzerland comprising a title page with an engraved vignette, a plate of a woman in Swiss costume, a map of the Simplon Road, begun by the French in 1800 and completed by them in 1807, drawn up by Cordier, an engineer at the Simplon;
and 36 views along the Simplon Road, engraved on copper and printed in bistre, sepia and blue, or in colour for a few of them.
The title page lists only 35 views; this copy contains one additional view.
