Description
MORREN (father and son).
La Belgique Horticole, a journal of gardens, greenhouses and orchards.
Liège, published by the General Management, 1851–1885.
28 volumes, in-8. Contemporary half-basane or red shagreen, occasionally with small corners worn, spine with decorative faux raised bands, gilt title and scrolls, speckled edges (binding slightly rubbed, a few spines more rubbed, a few scattered, discreet foxing spots, but the interior is fresh on the whole).
An exceptional set of this rare series.
Plates colour-printed with great vibrancy in a uniform binding of the period.
Numerous black-and-white engravings within the text.
Portrait frontispieces.
This copy is adorned with a great many lithographic plates, originally printed in black and subsequently hand-coloured using stencils, notably in Brussels by Seveyrens.
Some of the plates are fold-out.
A single entry in the KDR. No copy is as complete in the CCFr, where there are only 7 entries for a total of around thirty volumes held across several institutions.
A fine copy.
