Published in Amsterdam and available in Paris from Jombert & Cellot, 1776. In-12, (2)-VI-586 pp. Speckled fawn sheepskin with varnish from the period, plain decorated spine, red title label (gilding worn, small loss at the foot of the spine, slight rubbing and stains but interior remains fresh). First edition of this treatise on economics, which established Condillac as one of the leading theorists of political economy in the 18th century. A rare copy printed on blue-tinted laid paper. Edition with the errata on page 6 (the privilege was shared). INED, 1162. Kress, 7200. Ex libris engraved with the monogram and laurel wreath ‘N F B le Sage’. - HELVETIUS. Fawn-coloured veal with a pebbled grain, smooth decorated spine, red morocco title label, gilt title, gilt fillet on the edges, marbled edges (slight rubbing to the spines, lower caps slightly damaged but the copy remains in very fresh condition). A fine copy in its contemporary binding. A posthumous edition—the rarest—of this title, which was condemned to be burnt and thus became de facto clandestine and rare. Missing from Quérard and Tchermezine. - DE FONTANES. BARTHELEMI. D’Anacharsis, or Letters from a Troubadour... Amsterdam, Paris: Maradan, 1789. In-12, 109 pp. Marbled havana sheepskin binding of the period, plain spine with decoration, gilt title label (jaws rubbed, slight wear). - DE FONTANES. In-8, 434 pp. Contemporary green half-calf, plain spine decorated with a series of gilt fillets and gilt fleurons (slight rubbing to the cap ends, spine slightly faded). Gilded ‘Supra libris’ of the Grand Cercle at the foot of the spine. Stamp of the Ancien Cercle / Boulevard Montmartre. 14. The Grand Cercle, a social and gentlemen’s club in Paris, was in fact closed down for running an illegal gambling den. - DE FONTANES. Translation of Pope’s ‘Essay on Man’ into French verse, preceded by a preface and followed by notes... Paris, Le Normant, 1821. 8vo, (4)-243 pp. Contemporary fawn half-basane, smooth spine with romantic decoration, covers of speckled paper (a few foxing spots on some quires). First edition.
