Square in-8, 142 pp. Soft cover. Fine quality paper. Very good condition. LIMITED EDITION. One of the 50 copies reprinted on Arches laid paper, the only high-quality paper used. This is the first complete edition of the childhood and youth memoirs of Charles-Louis Philippe (1874–1909), compiled from the manuscript by André Gide, Henri Bachelin and Valery Larbaud, and completed on 12 June 1911. To allay the criticisms that this seven-chapter edition had provoked amongst some of the author’s friends, the NRF decided to publish simultaneously an abridged version comprising only the first four chapters, in keeping with the version Philippe had produced in 1900.We have included an interesting autograph manuscript signed by Maurice Beaubourg, a review of the work on the occasion of its publication in 1900.
