Description
GEN-PAUL, pseudonym of Paul Eugène (Montmartre 1895, Paris 1975). French expressionist painter, engraver, lithographer and illustrator. Many of his works are now in museums in France and abroad, and the latest ''Bénézit'' devoted four long columns to his biography and sales results.
Correspondence addressed to Roger G. Schmidt at La Reliure industrielle, with whom he had a close relationship.
- L.a.s. '' Gen Paul '' Geneva, 15 September 1963, 3 pp. in-4, stamped envelope. Letter addressed to R.G. Schmidt in Argenteuil.
Long letter apologising for still not having been able to complete the painting of "Argenteuil" that he had promised her for 15 September, as he is still in Geneva, where he only intended to stay for 48 hours, bogged down by interminable procedures to have the paternity of his son, born in that city and bearing his mother's name, recognised: "... especially as I need proof of his admission to the Lycée". He ends his letter with a renewed apology: "... I'm sorry to have broken my word, I waited until the last moment to see if I could free myself ... please accept my best wishes".
- L.a.s. Gen Paul (Paris) 21 July 1964, one page in-4. To Roger G. Schmidt, Argenteuil. Short letter to thank him "... after this good evening, enclosed is the well-written paper agreed for the cheque. Thank you very much. Yours faithfully."
- L. dactyl. s. '' Gen Paul '' Paris, 21 July 1964, one page in-4. Letter addressed to Robert G. SCHMIDT, Reliure Industrielle S.T.B. à Argenteuil (S. &. O). To confirm his agreement to the reproduction of his painting: "Joueurs de cartes à ARGENTEUIL - Il est bien entendu que cette reproduction sera destinée aux cartes de vœux de votre Société et que je ne vous réclamerai aucun droit à ce sujet".

- Greetings card, 1966. Card in the same format illustrated with a black composition on a pink and red background, showing a cyclist at the bottom of a bridge and including various inscriptions: "I received your letter ... how is the line drawing. All the best, Gen Paul, 1966. Card addressed to Mr Roger G. Schmidt 70 rue Cardinet, Paris 17th.

- Invitation card for the Exhibition of the original lithograph ''LONGCHAMPS'' by GEN PAUL'', at Robert CHATTÉ, 32 bis rue d'Orsel, Paris 18e.
The box contains a reproduction of the composition in black on a white background, accompanied by a text by Jean PAULHAN: "This Longchamps seems very beautiful to me. That such an elegant work (and even stunning by dint of its elegance) should at the same time have so much weight and gravity is the secret of Gen Paul and his song. - Jean Paulhan".
Attached is a set of five exhibition posters by Robert G. SCHMIDT, notably at the Galerie Saint-Roch.
