Description
GUILLAUME ALEXANDRE TRONSON DU COUDRAY (1750–1798) Plea by citizen G.A. Tronson-Ducoudray. In the case of the Revolutionary Committee of Nantes. Paris: Desenne, 1795. 20 x 12.5 cm. Following the fall of Robespierre, the 132 prominent figures from Nantes (whose numbers had been reduced to 94 due to ill-treatment), who had been sent by Jean-Baptiste Carrier to stand trial before the Revolutionary Tribunal in Paris, demanded to be tried. The investigation turned against the members of the Nantes Revolutionary Committee. Guillaume Alexandre Tronson du Coudray (1750–1798), Marie-Antoinette’s lawyer, then pleaded on behalf of two of Jean-Baptiste Carrier’s co-defendants, Proust and Vicq, whom he considered innocent. The indictment against the members of the Nantes Revolutionary Committee was made public on 16 October 1794: embezzlement, squandering of public funds, theft, robbery, abuse of authority, immorality, abuse of power, murder and assassination, etc. At the buyer’s request, we shall be happy to provide a general report on the condition of the lot described above.
