BARTOLOMEO PINELLI (1781–1835) Raccolta di Cinquanta Costumi Pittoreschi incisi all’acqua forte. [A collection of fifty picturesque costumes engraved in etching] Rome: Lorenzo Lazari, 1809. Oblong quarto (28 x 41.5 cm). Engraved title page, 50 engraved plates of costumes, numbered up to fifty, with the figures set in lively rustic scenes, wide margins. Contemporary cardboard binding. Minor paper losses on the cover, slight soiling, foxing and water stains. A fine copy of Pinelli’s work, a valuable record of Italian life and costume. The plates depict a variety of social groups and gatherings, including bear-tamer shows, shepherds, festivals, beggars and a magic lantern show. Provenance: ex-libris stamp of Aleksandrs Neibergs (1883–1956), a doctor in Riga. At the buyer’s request, we shall be happy to provide a general report on the condition of the lot described above.
