Born in England to a Russian Jewish family, Jack Grohusko arrived in the United States at a very young age. He lived in Hoboken, New Jersey, and worked in several New York bars before enjoying a decade of success at Baracca’s, a popular Italian restaurant in southern Manhattan, where he built a reputation as a mixologist. It was there that he published the first edition of his *Jack’s Manual*. The book notably features the Brooklyn Cocktail, which is likely his own creation. Grohusko subsequently opened his own bar in 1910 and revised his manual several times throughout his career.
