Boris Dmitrievich Grigoriev (1886–1939), an eminent Russian artist, a brilliant exponent of the avant-garde, one of the most highly regarded and enigmatic figures, is rightly counted amongst the greatest portraitists; a recognised master of the graphic arts and a skilful illustrator. Recognised from an early age, he was forced to emigrate from Petrograd during the Civil War. Having settled in the West, he lost none of his originality, remaining true to his roots and his love for his homeland.
The ‘Rasseïa’ album is one of Boris Grigoriev’s most ambitious works, his principal series of prints, which captures in a grotesque manner the figures and types of Russia in his time.
First edition. A bibliographic rarity.
Bibliography: Goubar, no. 1514; Seslavinski. Books for Connoisseurs, no. 44; M.S. Rarities of 20th-Century Russian Books, no. 85.
