László Moholy-Nagy (born László Weisz, 1895–1946), a prominent artist of Hungarian Jewish origin and a key figure in the international avant-garde. A theorist and innovator in modern art, photography, cinema and design, he was a friend of Alexander Rodchenko and drew inspiration from the paintings of Kazimir Malevich, Wassily Kandinsky and El Lissitzky. He synthesised the ideas of the Russian and European avant-garde movements into a personal theory of art that remains relevant to this day.
