Provenance: The archives of Anna Vyrubova (1884–1964)
Saint Pimen (c. 340–450), an Egyptian ascetic, spent his life in fasting and prayer and attained the heights of spiritual perfection. He became renowned as a wise instructor of monks.
Anna Alexandrovna Vyrubova (Taneeva until 1907 and after 1920; 1884–1964), a nun known as Maria (from 1923), was the closest friend of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and a memoirist. There were many rumours surrounding this woman’s life; she knew Grigory Rasputin well, and according to her memoirs, they met on several occasions at her dacha in Tsarskoye Selo. Rasputin played an enormous role in Vyrubova’s life. According to her, it was he who saved her following the railway accident in 1915.
