Erró studied art from 1949 to 1954 in Reykjavik, then in Oslo, Norway, and in Florence, Italy.
In 1955, he enrolled at the School of Mosaics in Ravenna.
He settled in Paris in 1958, where he met artists, writers and critics associated with the Surrealist movement: André Breton, as well as Roberto Matta, Victor Brauner, André Masson, Max Ernst, Man Ray, Joan Miró and Marcel Duchamp.
Erró was one of the founders of a movement known as Narrative Figuration in the early 1960s in France.
Many artists contributed to the emergence of this artistic style, including Valerio Adami, Hervé Télémaque and Peter Klasen.
In 1978, one of the artists associated with this movement, the Peruvian painter Herman Braun-Vega, created a portrait of him – with his active participation – depicting him within his artistic world inspired by comic strips, accumulating figurative elements detached from their context to the point of delirious proliferation.
