RECTANGULAR DESK by Jacques ADNET (1900–1984) A desk with three rows of drawers running along the waist, resting on three columns on each side, connected by two crossbars. Original black quilted leather and imitation leather upholstery, with polished brass fittings. Very fine quality of construction Dimensions: 76 x 121 x 61 cm Condition: shows signs of use and wear Jacques Adnet (1900–1984) was a French architect, interior designer and designer. He began his career working for the Compagnie des Arts Français, a company specialising in the production of high-quality furniture. He rose to fame in the 1950s, when he designed interiors for luxury hotels, ocean liners and government offices. Jacques Adnet was a prolific and renowned designer of his time, having received several awards for his work, including a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris in 1925 and the prestigious title of ‘Maître d’Art’ awarded by the French government in 1955. Among the iconic pieces created by Jacques Adnet are the Adnet chair, the presidential desk, the Adnet table lamp and the Adnet mirror, all characterised by the innovative use of industrial materials such as leather and metal. He also worked closely with luxury brands such as Hermès and Cartier to create high-quality leather accessories. Jacques Adnet was regarded as one of the most innovative designers of his time, and his legacy continues to influence modern design.
